Calculator Checks & Reporting Errors
Understand what a calculation check can establish and how to report a result or feature that does not look right.
A useful estimate needs suitable measurements, appropriate assumptions, and a calculation that matches the project. This page explains how to assess a result and provide enough information to describe a possible problem.
Checks are not professional certification
A worked example can confirm the arithmetic for one scenario. It does not establish that every input combination, product, or project has been checked. A planning result is not engineering approval.
Different Types of Checks
Mathematical checks
Compare the calculation with a worked example using the same units, assumptions, allowances, and rounding. A difference in assumptions can produce a different result even when the underlying geometry is the same.
Input and unit checks
Examine whether the entered values are appropriate for the selected fields and measurement system. Missing, invalid, or unusually large values can require different handling depending on the tool.
Feature checks
Saving, exporting, previews, and project totals are separate from the base material calculation. A working feature does not prove that every calculation is correct, and a feature problem does not necessarily mean the underlying arithmetic is wrong.
These categories explain different checking tasks. They are not a statement that every listed check has been completed for every calculator.
Before Reporting an Unexpected Result
- Confirm the selected project type and measurement system.
- Check each dimension and its displayed unit.
- Review product coverage, yield, density, and pack size.
- Check deductions, waste, and other selected adjustments.
- Distinguish the base requirement from the rounded purchase quantity.
- Check price units and which charges are included.
Report a Possible Calculation Error
Please include the following information so the result can be understood and reproduced:
- Calculator name or page link
- Selected project type and measurement system
- All relevant input values and units
- Selected options, allowances, and product values
- The result displayed
- The result you expected and how you calculated it
- A screenshot or supporting product document, if available
Send the details
Use Calculator Issue in your message subject where practical.

Report a Button, Save, or Export Problem
Include the calculator or page name, your browser and device type, the action you took, and what happened. Mention any visible error message.
Do not send passwords, payment card details, or other sensitive account information. A screenshot should show only the information needed to explain the issue.
Understanding Changes & Review Claims
A wording or layout edit is different from a formula correction. A page date alone does not establish which calculations were checked or whether an independent professional reviewed them.
When comparing results over time, keep a record of the inputs, settings, and date of the calculation. This helps distinguish a changed assumption from a changed formula or display.
When to Seek Professional Advice
If a result appears unsuitable for your project, confirm the requirement before purchasing or starting work. Structural, regulated, and safety-critical work may require qualified professional advice, approved plans, and local approvals.
Home Z Calc provides preliminary planning estimates. Reporting an issue does not replace checking final specifications and quantities with your supplier or an appropriately qualified professional.
